Saint-Gobain approached Draw & Code to develop a VR construction skills training application that would elevate the skills of Site Assessors responsible for door installation quality checks. The goal was to create an immersive, repeatable training tool that helps learners recognise and understand common installation faults, while supporting structured feedback with a trainer.
The experience was required to mirror real-world assessment environments, providing clear, guided access to both correct installation standards and practical fault-finding exercises. As part of this, the virtual reality training app had to present accurate construction details including fixings, components, screws and assembly best practice video that complements the simulated on-site learning.
Crucially, the solution had to support both individual learning and trainer-led review, ensuring assessors could build confidence in identifying issues across a range of installation scenarios.
Draw & Code crafted a two-storey virtual environment designed to take learners through a natural progression – from understanding best practice to identifying errors in situ.
On the ground floor, trainees can explore two doorway installations, each accompanied by clear instructional videos demonstrating correct frame construction. These are supported by concise facts and contextual information to reinforce the fundamentals of proper installation techniques.
Ascending to the first floor, learners enter an open assessment space featuring five distinct door frame constructions. Here, the task becomes hands-on: trainees inspect each setup, tagging faults as they discover them. The interaction design focuses on clarity and ease of use, allowing learners to concentrate on critical observation rather than navigation or controls.
Throughout development, Draw & Code ensured accuracy and reliability, collaborating closely with subject-matter experts to validate every element of the training content. Our regular collaborators, Juice Immersive, offered project management support during the production of the project.
By the end of the VR construction skills training experience, learners receive a performance score based on the accuracy and completeness of the faults they identified. This creates a measurable outcome that can be reviewed with trainers, strengthening both competency and confidence.
The resulting enterprise VR application successfully transforms technical training into an engaging, immersive environment, one that supports repeatable practice, consistent assessment, and a deeper understanding of installation standards. It provides Saint-Gobain with a modern, scalable training tool that enhances the skills of Site Assessors in a safe, controlled, and highly visual setting.
