James Shock is a recent graduate from Liverpool Media Academy, he joined us for a 3D work placement, find out what he got up to.
How did you come to work with Draw & Code?
Ben McWilliams visited my final year exhibition at University. I showcased some of my work to him. He exchanged his email and later contacted me asking if I was interested in an opportunity to gain some work experience, and I immediately accepted!
How was your experience working with us?
I thoroughly enjoyed my time; everyone was amicable and helpful. Although he is the Head of 3D, Daniel always found time to help if I ever encountered any issues. Before I even conceived any idea or concept, multiple people offered their expertise and assistance, which I appreciated.
What did you work on?
I worked on an AR Formula 1 circuit, Silverstone, which resembles a Scalextric track that would display historical/memorable events depicted by animations from the figurine cars and an information popup that would give context.
What did you learn from the experience?
I’ve learnt more about the curve tool within Maya expanding my knowledge of the toolbelt whilst also being introduced to SparkAR, a whole new program for myself that enabled me to get my concept into AR and found it truly interesting, quickly opening my eyes to the possibilities of Augmented Reality.
What’s next for you?
I’m going to work on personal assets and refine my portfolio and showreel whilst trying to find a position somewhere close to preferably a junior role or even an apprenticeship to widen my capabilities, also dabbling more into SparkAR to see what I can achieve.
