Catarina Antonini is a student at All Saints College in Liverpool who joined Draw & Code for remote work experience early in 2021. As somebody new to the interactive industry, we wanted to find out what Catarina thought of the experience and whether this has fired her up to continue her journey in creative technology.
How did you come to work with Draw & Code?
The careers advisor in my school was helping me to find any cool opportunities. She knows I’m very interested in computer science, software development and technology; so she got in touch with Draw & Code.
How was your experience working with us?
I was very unmotivated due to lockdown; I thought I wouldn’t find any work experience or do something I’d enjoy because of it. Draw & Code kept me engaged in new activities everyday, exactly what I was looking for. And although everything was remote, it still enabled me to learn a lot about the industry. I came to the conclusion that I’d adapt very well to this type of work, so now I know what to look for in a future job!
What did you work on?
I was able to join multiple meetings for a lot of different projects and see how the team design and develop applications and games. I even shared my ideas for some of them! Besides that, I worked with things like QA and the creation of wireframes, tasks I actually enjoyed a lot.
What did you learn from the experience?
The team was always available to answer any questions I had. I was able to learn about the different technologies like AR and tools commonly used in the industry like Jira and Figma, for example. I believe now I have a much clearer idea of what I want in the future and what a job in companies like Draw & Code would look like.
What’s next for you?
After these weeks, I know for sure now that the technology field is where I belong. My next big project is going to university (computer science) next year, but I will definitely keep looking for activities in which I can learn and gain experience. That could be from internship to another work experience or a course. I’m excited by what I’ll find in the future!
